Foco formed in Rio de Janeiro around 2004, with vocalist Leo Cavalcanti and guitarist Marcelo Lobato at the center. Bassist Rodrigo "Digão" Cavalcanti and drummer Pedro Pelatos rounded out the lineup. Their first album came out in 2006, simply called "Foco," and they put out another one called "Ano Zero" two years later.
Some of their songs, like "Esqueça" and "Hoje," stirred things up in Brazil with lyrics that some people found too direct. The band kept playing anyway, and they developed a following for their live shows, which mixed rock with funk and samba rhythms.
They never really fit into one category, and that was part of their appeal. You can hear it in tracks like "Make Your Mind" and "Me Perder Em Você", there's a restlessness there, a willingness to let the song go where it needs to.
