Fônica

Fônica formed in Rio de Janeiro in the early 2000s with Lucas Silveira on lead guitar, Bruno Boncini on vocals and rhythm guitar, Bruno Gouveia on bass, and Marcos Sampaio on drums. Their self-titled debut album came out in 2004, mixing pop, rock, and electronic touches. They followed it with records like Infinito in 2007, Originis in 2009, and Luz in 2011.

Their songs often had an introspective, poetic quality. Tracks like O and O Caboclo e a Menina do Sorriso Bordado show that side of their writing. The music caught on in Brazil and found listeners elsewhere too.

In 2007, there was a plagiarism accusation over the song Odeio, though it was eventually dismissed. The band also dealt with some personal health issues that affected their work at times. They kept recording through that period, with Luz leaning more into electronic experimentation.
