Forró Agarradinho formed in Fortaleza, Brazil in 1998. The original lineup included Beto Forró on lead vocals and guitar, Silvério Pessoa on accordion, Nilton Leite on zabumba, and Zé Benedito on triangle. Their name translates to 'embracing forró,' which fits their style of music meant for close dancing.
Their sound works within traditional forró forms like xote and baião, with the accordion and driving rhythms central to songs like 'Xote Pra Mariana' and 'Aí Que O Trem É Bão.' They've released albums including 'Forró Agarradinho ao Vivo' in 2000 and 'Xote Pra Mariana' in 2003.
'Xote Pra Mariana' became particularly well-known in Brazilian dance halls. The band has faced some criticism over lyrics and a plagiarism accusation they defended against, but they kept playing. Their music stays grounded in the northeastern Brazilian traditions they started with.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
