Forró Anjo Azul formed in 1993 in Fortaleza, Brazil, with vocalist Ivanildo Reis and accordionist Luizinho Calixto. Their music pulls from traditional forró rhythms but mixes in touches of pop and rock. The band's 1997 album 'Não Sou de Ninguém' gave them their commercial breakthrough, with the title track becoming a staple in their set.
In 1999, the group faced plagiarism allegations over some of their melodies, which they denied. Reis also drew criticism at times for his outspoken public statements. They kept recording through the 2000s and 2010s, putting out more than twenty albums that gradually incorporated electronic and funk elements alongside songs like 'Meu Anjo Azul' and 'Alfabeto do Amor'.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
