Forró da Geração formed in Fortaleza, Ceará in 1993 with three members: Alef on vocals and accordion, Bruno on keyboards, and Léo on bass. They played a modern, electric version of forró that caught on in local bars.
Their debut album came out in 1994, titled after the song 'Gosto Amargo do Desprezo.' That track became a hit, a ballad about unrequited love that helped establish them. Bruno left in 1999 and was replaced by Felipe Silva.
In 2010, a legal dispute split the band. Alef and Léo continued together under the name Forró da Geração.
