Forró Efeitos formed in Fortaleza, Ceará in 2002, with Julinho Portela as vocalist and songwriter. The band's original lineup included accordionist Rogério da Sanfona, bassist Fábio Sampaio, and drummer Marquinhos do Acordeon. Over time, Portela became the only constant member through various lineup changes.
In 2007, the band experienced a tragic tour bus accident that killed two members and seriously injured Portela. They continued performing afterward, though their hit song "No Dia do Seu Casamento" later faced unresolved plagiarism accusations.
Their debut album "Forró Efeitos" came out in 2004, followed by releases like "Forró de Amor" in 2006 and "Forró Efeitos 10 Anos" in 2012. They put out "Forró Sem Fronteiras" in 2018.
