Forró Martins formed in 1994 in Crateús, Ceará, started by brothers Martins and Mário Alves. They built a local following before their 2002 single "A Bola" broke through nationally, its rhythm and straightforward lyrics about love and loss connecting widely across Brazil.
Their sound is rooted in traditional forró from Brazil's Northeast, and they've released albums like "Ao Vivo em Crateús" in 2004 and "O Forró do Nordeste" in 2012. Another track, "Bumbum Facebook," shows their knack for catchy, contemporary takes on the style.
The band includes Martins Alves on lead vocals and guitar, Mário Alves on vocals and accordion, João Alves on vocals and bass, Gilmar Alves on drums, and Chico Alves on percussion. They've worked with artists like Gilberto Gil and Ivete Sangalo, and their music remains a fixture at festivals and celebrations in the region.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
