Forró Moreno

Forró Moreno formed in Aracaju, Sergipe in 1996, started by Nildomar Dantas and Toinho Batera. They worked with traditional Northeastern Brazilian rhythms, the kind you'd hear at local festivals and dances, and gave them a slightly updated feel that caught on beyond their region.

Their song "A Mangueira" became something of a standard, the sort of track that gets played at parties and on the radio when people want that particular forró bounce. Other songs like "Canto Pé de Serra" and "Toque Mais Um Xote" followed a similar path, straightforward, rhythmic, and built for dancing.

In 2002, there was a legal dispute about whether "A Mangueira" borrowed too much from earlier material, but the band defended their work and the case was resolved in their favor. They kept recording through the 2000s, putting out albums like "No Balanço do Forró" in 2001 and a compilation called "O Melhor do Forró Moreno" in 2008.

Nildomar Dantas handled lead vocals, with Toinho Batera on drums, and they were joined by musicians like Jairo José on accordion and Jocadinho on triangle. They sometimes worked with guest vocalists, including Elba Ramalho. The group marked their 20th anniversary with a release in 2016.
