Forró Tony & Marhy were a Brazilian duo from Fortaleza who performed traditional forró music together in the 1970s. Their debut album in 1972 shared its name with their most famous song, 'Resposta do Pente (Coitado).' That track and others like 'Aí Se Eu Te Pego' and 'Coração Cigano' became well-known in their catalog.
They faced some skepticism early on for being a man and woman performing together, which was less common in their scene at the time.
Their albums included titles like 'É o Forró' in 1974 and 'Forró do Amor' in 1977. They blended forró rhythms with other influences, though the exact mix varied across recordings. The partnership between Antônio Francisco de Lima (Tony) and Maria de Jesus Gomes (Marhy) lasted through several releases before their activity tapered off.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
