Fra Lippo Lippi

Fra Lippo Lippi took their name from the 15th-century Italian painter Fra Filippo Lippi. The band's 1989 song 'Every Time I See You' became their most recognizable track, with its shimmering melody and straightforward lyrics about longing. They also recorded songs like 'Angel' and 'Beauty And Madness' that followed a similar melodic pop approach.

Matthew Sweet handled lead vocals and songwriting for the group. Their debut album was called 'In the Kingdom of Make Believe,' and they later released records titled 'The Rose Garden' and 'Red.' The band went through some lineup changes over time, with different drummers like Kurt Bloch and Scott Johnson playing with them.

They stopped working together for a while but started playing again in 2007. Their music has a clean, jangly guitar sound that feels both personal and slightly detached, like someone thinking out loud rather than making grand statements.
