His music includes songs like "Valsa da despedida," "Aniversário de Casamento," and "Baile da Saudade." In 1988, he had a public dispute with fellow musician Chico Buarque over song usage. He has worked with musicians such as Carlinhos Brown, Chico César, and Ivan Lins.
Petrônio released albums including "Meu Nome É Francisco" in 1985, "O Que Você Quer" in 1987, and "Natural" in 1993. In 2015, his son died of cancer.
