Francisco Salas

Francisco Salas came up in Seville, where he grew up hearing the traditional rhythms of Andalusia. He was drawn to flamenco cante jondo and the ballads of singers like Nino Bravo, which shaped his approach to singing.

In the late 1960s, he started working with guitarist Antonio García and bassist Diego Fernández. Their debut album came out in 1972, and its title track "Nada Más" became a hit. The song's direct lyrics about unrequited love connected with listeners, and Salas delivered it with a plain intensity that felt different from more polished pop of the time.

Salas had an outspoken side that sometimes put him at odds with critics, especially regarding the Franco regime. But the music, particularly songs like "Nada Más," carried its own weight without needing extra drama.
