Frank Bell formed in 2005, taking their name from a Hemingway character. The band's lineup included Frank Bellicchi on vocals, James Regan on guitar, Danny Mastrangelo on bass, and Michael Morrel on drums. They started playing shows around New York City, working through the usual early struggles of a new band.

Their 2008 debut album was called "Exiles on Main Street," followed by "The Dreamers' Republic" in 2012. The song "Home" became their most recognized track, appearing on their 2017 album of the same name. They also recorded "Something Real" with Matt Morris.

Bellicchi wrote lyrics that sometimes touched on social issues, which occasionally sparked debate at their shows. The band kept playing through those moments, developing a following drawn to their straightforward rock sound and direct approach to songwriting.
