Frank Boeijen Groep formed in 1980 with Frank Boeijen on vocals and guitar, Erik Habbema on guitar, Anne Soldaat on bass, and Roland Van der Ree on drums. Their self-titled debut album found an audience quickly, and they followed it with records like 'Kroniek' and 'De Ontmoeting.'
Some of their songs became fixtures in Dutch pop-rock, including 'De Verzoening' and 'De Wind Nam Hem Mee.' In 1985, 'De Verzoening' was at the center of plagiarism accusations that were eventually dismissed, though the episode lingered. Boeijen's lyrics often touched on personal and sometimes contentious themes.
The band's lineup shifted over time. By 1987, Habbema and Van der Ree had left, with Jan de Hont and Fred Nieuwdorp joining on guitar and drums. They kept recording through the years, putting out more than twenty studio albums that ranged from rock to quieter, folk-tinged material.
