Ein Eisbär im Zoo hatte herrliche Pläne.
Er putzte sich täglich und machte sich schön.
Er wollte - das wußten sogar die Schwäne -
als ganz große Nummer im Zirkuszelt stehn.
Er tanzte Beat und noch andere Sachen,
und fragte den affen: "Na, ist es dir recht?"
Der Affe, ein Kenner, er mußte nur lachen,
und sagte ihm ehrlich: "Mein Freund, das war schlecht."
Der Bär war enttäuscht, doch er rief: "Darauf pfeiff ich!"
(war ein Berliner) Er drehte sich weiter und hielt das für Kunst.
Er tanzte für alle - sogar für Herrn Zeisig -
und hoffte noch immer auf Beifall und Gunst.
Das alles beobachtete eine Ziege
und offen gesagt tat der Eisbär ihr leid.
Drum sprach sie "So eine Vollendung,
die krieg' ich nie mehr zu sehn, zu gar keiner Zeit."
Das hörte der Bär mit gebrochenem Herzen,
und tappste nur traurig und brummig umher.
Den Tadel des Affen, den konnt' er verschmerzen.
Das Lob einer Ziege - das kränkte ihn sehr.
