Freak Kitchen

Freak Kitchen is a Swedish hard rock band that formed in the early 1990s, led by guitarist and vocalist Mattias 'Matte' Kallen. Their debut album 'Appetizer' came out in 1992, with drummer Joakim 'Jokke' Sjöberg and bassist Christer 'Chriss' Johansson completing the original lineup. Kallen has cited Frank Zappa and Spinal Tap as influences, which shows in their approach to music.

Their songs often mix technical guitar work with humor and provocation. Tracks like 'Porno Daddy' and 'Freak Of The Week' became known for their salacious lyrics and sparked debates about censorship. The band has released over a dozen studio albums including 'Spanking Hour' in 1996 and 'Land of the Freaks' in 2003.

While the lineup has changed over time, Kallen remains the constant presence. Their sound incorporates elements of jazz, funk, and classical music alongside hard rock. They've worked with musicians like Mike Keneally and Ron 'Bumblefoot' Thal, but their live shows are mostly about delivering their own material with energy and audience interaction.
