Background notes

Archive material and source history

Freak Power formed in 1992 with Ash Catron, Neil Halstead, Martin Noble, and Simon Jones. Their debut album 'More of Everything for Everybody' came out in 1996 and included the track 'Big Time,' which got some attention at the time. The band's sound had a dance groove to it, heard on songs like 'Moonbeam Woman' and 'Road Thang.'

After the first album, Halstead and Noble left to work on other things. Catron and Jones kept the band going, putting out records like 'Drive to Survive' in 1998 and 'The Ten Commandments' in 2003. Their music from that period, including songs like 'Change My Mind' and 'Rush,' kept that same loose, rhythmic feel.

Freak Power's catalog is mostly remembered for that mid-90s moment when 'Big Time' was around. They made a few more albums, but that early mix of psychedelic touches and dance rhythms is what stuck.
