The Freestylers started in Bristol in 1996 as Matt Cantor and Ollie Bown. Their early tracks like "Ruffneck" and "Bassline" mixed breakbeat, jungle, and techno from the city's club scene.
In 1998, "Shake Your Body" became a hit internationally. The track's rhythm and melody connected with dance floors, though it later faced a copyright lawsuit over an alleged unlicensed sample.
Cantor left in 2001, and Bown kept the project going with various collaborators. They put out albums like "Pressure Point" in 2003 and "Adventures in Freestyle" in 2007, along with songs such as "B-B Stance" and "Cracks."
