He started making electronic music in the early 2000s, releasing singles and EPs before putting out his first album, 'Here Today, Gone Tomorrow,' in 2010. That record mixed house and techno elements in a way that caught people's attention.
His songs like 'Can't Stand In The Fire' and 'Facing The Sun' have a certain introspective quality to them, with lyrics that feel more personal than a lot of dance music. He followed that first album with others including 'Sick Travellin'' in 2012, 'Ways Over Water' in 2015, and 'True Colours' in 2022.
Kalkbrenner has played festivals and clubs internationally, and there was a legal dispute in 2012 about his music being used in a commercial without permission. But mostly he's kept working, putting out tracks like 'Get a Life' and 'Little By Little' that fit into that Berlin electronic sound without trying to reinvent it.
