Fuji is a Cuban quartet that formed in Havana in the early 2000s. The group includes vocalist Yadira Gonzalez, guitarist Carlos Estrada, bassist Yasser Portuondo, and drummer Lorenzo Diaz. Their name comes from a sacred mountain in Japan.
Their debut album "Impaciente" came out in 2005, with the title track becoming a notable song about unrequited love. They've also recorded covers like "O Tempo" and "A Sua Maneira," and collaborated with other artists on tracks such as "Fica Mais Um Pouco" and "Penso Em Nós."
Later albums like "Ayer" (2012) and "Porvenir" (2018) showed the band incorporating more jazz, soul, and world music elements into their sound. Yadira Gonzalez's vocals developed more nuance during this period, and the group's arrangements became more intricate.
