Funk'n Lata

Funk'n Lata was a Brazilian collective that came together in the 1970s, known for mixing samba with funk rhythms. Their most recognizable track is probably "A Taça do Mundo É Nossa," which became an anthem celebrating Brazil's 1970 World Cup win. The group included Jorge Ben Jor on vocals, Milton Banana on percussion, and Ronaldo Silva on bass, among others.

They put out a few albums in the mid-70s, starting with Santa Clara in 1975. That record had songs like "A Gota Mágica" and "Soca na Cabeça." The following year's Raça touched on themes of race and identity, while 1977's Mandala leaned into more psychedelic territory with tracks like the title cut and "Ojê."

Beyond their World Cup song, Funk'n Lata also recorded tracks like "Mama África," "Mangueira," and "Vida." Their blend of styles wasn't always an easy sell at the time, facing some skepticism from listeners who preferred their genres kept separate. But the music they made together has held up as a particular slice of that era's sound.
