Hermlin's voice and lyrics gave the band its character, with Thomas Fritz on guitar, Christian Hähnel on bass, and Michael Letz on drums. Their songs used satire and absurd humor to poke at political figures and social norms, which sometimes got them into trouble. One track that stirred things up was 'Als Willy Brandt Bundeskanzler War,' a sharp take on the former West German chancellor.
They put out records like 'Hermlin' in 1988, 'Jetzt ist wieder Weihnachten' in 1993, and 'Der gute Mensch von Sezuan' in 1996. Their shows were known for being lively and drawing laughs, even as their style kept them from getting much mainstream radio play. Hermlin's health problems occasionally interrupted their work, but they kept going with albums into the 2000s and 2010s, like 'Immer wieder Sonntag' in 2002 and 'Keine Ahnung' in 2010.
