Conviction

I was up late, had just ate, I was finna retire

It was a Thursday, I was reading your Word right there by the fire

And every word it hit a nerve just like you pitched a reply to it

And it burned getting my head straight like a dude touched a riser

In an instant I was convicted by the script of the writer

Yo what is this? I’m conflicted, it straight kicks my desires

And God you want me live this, go submit and apply it?

I’d never thought I’d deny you, but I can’t take what’s required

I’m finna burst from such a wreck, I can’t explain how I’m feeling

I’m looking up, my face sweat like it’s pouring rain from the ceiling

And Lord, man this is rough, you see the pain in your children

I ain’t tryna blame you, I’m just ashamed how I’m feeling

Would I play the villain, while this movie keeps reelin’

I’m not a victim, I’m choosing to break the rules of the system

Why this new resistance? I’m normally the dude that listens

Yeah that may be true, but I can’t believe I’m fighting conviction

When your body’s saying yes, but God is saying no

When your feelings say impressed, but the Sprit says whoa

And yo, my life feels different, it’s been a week since I listened

To your Word, and my vision’s blurred, and yeah I know that’s the distance

Nothing can hold my attention, it’s like my soul has been injured

And I can’t sew it with stitches, I gotta take hold of repentance

And I refuse to act now, get my shoes on flat ground

And I know his truth that I need to move and choose to act now

My emotions got me confused and I’m losing track now

Even though I’m sick without you like a dude who blacked out

This ain’t workin’ out, my heart is hurting loud

I know for certain I’m feeling worthless without your smile

An eternal perspective is what we’re lacking sadly

When we treatin’ our conviction like a batting average

And our desires require we grab like addicts

But the fact of God’s wisdom, that we drop like baggage
