Gabi Karine formed in São Paulo in the late 1990s, led by vocalist Gabriela Mariano. Their sound mixed punk, samba, and rap, with lyrics that often tackled social inequality and female empowerment.
They released albums like "Coisa Feia" in 1998, "Escombro" in 2000, "Tempo Real" in 2002, and a self-titled record in 2005. The band's lineup changed over time, but Mariano remained the constant voice at the center.
Their most recognizable track is probably "Cospe Nesse Prato," which became something of an anthem. Other songs like "Patricinha," "Santinho," and "Pega Me Leva" round out what listeners know them for. The music was raw and confrontational, and it found an audience that appreciated exactly that.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
