Gabriel Garannes formed in Rio de Janeiro in 2006 around singer-guitarist Gabriel Miranda and bassist Gabriel Soares, later joined by drummer Leonardo Cordeiro. Their music draws from Brazilian popular music, rock, and folk traditions. The song 'A Gente Se Vê Nas Estradas' became particularly well-known, capturing a sense of longing that resonated with listeners.
Their lyrics often engage with social and political themes, which has drawn both praise and criticism over time. This hasn't stopped them from performing or releasing albums like 'Terra em Transe' in 2012 and 'Rodas do Tempo' in 2015. Other songs in their catalog include 'Noite Mágica,' 'Liberte-Se,' and 'O Pássaro do Futuro.'
In 2018, they put out 'Origens,' a collaborative album with other Brazilian singer-songwriters. The trio continues to work, maintaining a focus on their musical roots and the conversations their work can start.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
