Gabriel Rytter

Gabriel Rytter came up in Porto Alegre, Brazil, where he started making alternative rock that leaned into introspection. His debut album was called "Coração de Pedra," and he followed it with records like "Terra Prometida" and "Vazio." Those later albums sometimes mixed rock with electronica and bits of traditional Brazilian music.

He wrote songs like "Caravana de Milagres" and "Não Tem Acordo," and for a while he worked with musicians including Mariana Rosa on bass, Rafael Vieira on drums, and Thiago Dalvi handling synth and programming. The music could get moody, and some listeners found it pessimistic, though others appreciated the directness.

Rytter kept his sound fairly raw and emotional, avoiding polish. He didn't chase broad pop formulas, which meant his audience stayed specific. The work holds together because of that consistency, he was committed to a certain kind of searching, slightly brooding alternative rock from southern Brazil.
