The Gambafreaks formed in Milan in the early 1980s, with Alberto Cottica as their frontman. They started playing during a time when punk and new wave were taking hold in Italy, and they built their reputation through live shows and touring before recording anything.
Their debut album came out in 1989, called 'The Pink Album.' The song 'Freedom' from that record became their breakthrough hit, reaching the top of charts in Europe. They followed it with albums like 'Disco Freaks' in 1991 and 'Trance Attack' in 1993.
The band kept releasing music into the 2000s, including a compilation called 'The Best of Gambafreaks' in 2005.
