Gamberro formed in Madrid around 1981, led by vocalist Diego "El Cigala" Jiménez. Their first album, "A Robar Amor," came out the following year and gave them their breakthrough with the title track. The band's sound mixed flamenco rhythms with punk energy, a combination that felt raw and immediate rather than carefully polished.
They followed up with albums like "Camina o Revienta" in 1984 and "Blues de la Calle" in 1989. Songs like "Amigo" and "Chau Soledad" showed their range, moving between fiery uptempo numbers and more reflective moments. The lineup included guitarist Antonio "El Raya" Rayo, bassist Javier "El Flaco" Aguirre, and drummer Carlos "El Cartucho" Martín.
Jiménez's vocals carried a rough, emotional quality that became central to their recordings.
