Gambiarre formed in São Paulo in the late 1990s with Rodrigo Lúcio on vocals, Pedro Celli on guitar, Rafael Ramos on bass, and Renato Zanuto on drums. They released their debut album 'Aqui As Paredes Também Podem Ouvir' in 2003, which included the track 'Trânsito' among others.
Their music mixed Brazilian rhythms with punk energy and hip-hop influences, with lyrics that often dealt with urban life and social issues. The title track from that first album became particularly well-known for its portrayal of life in the favelas.
They followed up with albums like 'Domingo' in 2005 and 'Sagrado' in 2008. Their outspoken approach sometimes drew criticism, but they kept making music that felt direct and grounded in their surroundings.
