Ganggorra formed in Rio de Janeiro in 1989 with Henrique Portugal on vocals and guitar, Ricardo Barreto on bass, and Paulo César on drums. Their debut album 'O Que É Bom Pra Mim?' came out in 1992, and its title track became a hit. The song 'Nada Pra Provar' also appears among their notable work.
Their lyrics sometimes drew criticism for social commentary and double meanings, but they kept making music through the 1990s and early 2000s. They worked with various sounds, touching on samba, funk, rock, reggae, and ska without settling into one style.
In 1997, bassist Ricardo Barreto died, which was a difficult moment for the band. They kept recording afterward, with songs like 'Gisele' and 'Desconstruir' showing up in their catalog.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
