Archive material and source history
Gary Low was a band from Peru that formed in Lima in 1993. They started out as Los Pitufos, with members Gary Bryan, Pedro Suárez-Vértiz, Pepe Chiriboga, and Diego Dibós. Their self-titled debut album came out in 1995, mixing rock and pop with Peruvian rhythms.
In 1996, the song 'La Colegiala' became a huge hit. Its catchy tune and lyrics about a schoolgirl crush made it popular, but also drew criticism for suggestive content.
After that, Gary Low kept making music, shifting toward more serious themes on later albums. They put out several records, including 'Fiesta y Ritmo' and 'El Ritmo de mi Corazón', before their catalog trailed off in the early 2000s.
