Gaura Vani

Gaura Vani formed in the 1970s, coming out of the Hare Krishna movement. The band was led by Shyamasundar Das and Jahnavi Harrison, who blended traditional Indian devotional music with Western classical and psychedelic rock elements. Their sound developed around intricate melodies and rhythmic grooves that felt both meditative and energetic.

Their 1979 song "My Body Is a Temple" became something of an anthem for spiritual seekers. The track appeared on their first album of the same name, which was followed by releases like Radha Damodar in 1982 and The Mystic Chords of Brahma in 1985.

Their association with the Hare Krishna movement initially created some skepticism in the mainstream music industry. But the band kept making music that reflected their spiritual beliefs, eventually releasing later albums like Kirtan for Peace in 1995 and The Divine Nectar in 2010.
