Crystal Gayle

Crystal Gayle was born Brenda Gail Webb in Paintsville, Kentucky. Her older sister Loretta Lynn had already found success in country music, and Gayle began developing her own vocal style in that world. She signed with Capitol Records in the 1970s and released her self-titled debut album in 1975.

Her breakthrough came with "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue," a single from that first album. Other songs like "Talking In Your Sleep" and "You and I" also became familiar radio hits during this period.

In the 1980s, she released the album "Hollywood, Tennessee," which blended country with pop elements. Some critics at the time questioned the move, but it reflected her willingness to explore different sounds. She has spoken openly about dealing with depression and anxiety, which affected both her career and personal life at various points.

Over the decades, she has recorded numerous albums, including "True Love" in 1986 and "Heart and Soul" in 1993. Her voice, often described as smooth and ethereal, remains her most recognizable instrument.
