Gegê Caos formed his band in the 1990s, working with a sound that mixed punk and rock with Brazilian rhythms. Their debut album 'Sombra' came out in 2002, followed by 'Super Nova' in 2004 and 'O Mundo Dá Voltas' in 2008. Over those records, they brought in elements of hip-hop, funk, and reggae.
Their song 'Pá Subi' became a hit in Brazil, known for its fast beat and lyrics that spoke to people on the margins. Gegê Caos, born Gesvaldo Rodrigues de Souza, started performing on the streets of Rio de Janeiro as a teenager. The band built a following through live shows in the underground scene, though their approach kept them at odds with parts of the mainstream industry.
