Gene Ramos formed in São Paulo in the late 1960s as a trio with Gene Ramos on vocals and guitar, Luiz Sérgio on drums, and Célio Barros on bass. They had a raw energy that caught people's attention, and their self-titled debut album came out in 1970 with the song 'Minha Decisão' on it.
That song, 'Minha Decisão,' became their signature track. It was an immediate hit when it was released and has stuck around in Brazilian pop culture since. The band put out a few more albums in the early 1970s, like 'Por Que' in 1972 and 'Nosso Mundo' in 1975.
Their lineup changed after Célio Barros left in 1973, and they brought in a keyboardist named Mario Test.
