Genya Ravan was born in Poland and came to the United States as a child. In 1963, she formed her first band, The Escorts. By 1967, she was singing with the psychedelic rock group Ten Wheel Drive, which put out two albums before she left in 1969 to go solo.
Her self-titled debut album arrived in 1970. The track 'Love Is a Fire' became a standout, with its hard rock energy and soulful delivery. Other songs from that period, like 'Anyway That You Want Me' and 'Bird On The Wire,' showed her range across rock and soul covers.
Ravan worked with various musicians over time, including guitarist Steve Katz from Blood, Sweat & Tears and keyboardist Richard Robinson from The Band. She also had a legal dispute with Kiss over makeup designs, which was settled out of court. Her recordings include collaborations with artists like Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen.
