Archive material and source history
Geoff Tate was the vocalist for Queensrÿche, a heavy metal band he co-founded in 1980 with guitarist Chris DeGarmo and bassist Eddie Jackson. They started in Bellevue, Washington, though Tate was born in Stuttgart, Germany. Their first album, The Warning, came out in 1984. Songs like Cold from their second album Rage for Order got some radio play in the late 1980s.
Queensrÿche put out a few more albums including Operation: Mindcrime and Empire. In 2012, the other members fired Tate over disagreements about money and how things were run. He started a new band called Operation: Mindcrime, keeping rights to that album title. The legal fight over the Queensrÿche name went on for years before settling in 2021.
Tate has kept recording on his own since then, with songs like Dark Money and Flood appearing in his solo work. He doesn't perform with Queensrÿche anymore, but still tours with his own material.
