The Georgia Satellites formed in Atlanta in 1980, with Dan Baird on vocals and guitar, Rick Richards on guitar, Dave Hewitt on bass, and Mauro Magellan on drums. They signed with Elektra Records in 1986 and released their self-titled debut album that same year, which included the hit 'Keep Your Hands to Yourself.'
Their second album, 'Open All Night,' came out in 1988 and featured 'All Over But the Cryin',' a ballad that got steady play on rock radio. The band put out one more studio album, 'In the Land of Salvation and Sin,' in 1991 before disbanding in 1990.
Baird's vocals had a rough edge, and Richards' guitar work gave their music a Southern rock feel without leaning too hard into country. Songs like 'Anna Lee' and 'Baby So Fine' kept things straightforward and guitar-driven.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
