Archive material and source history
Gepetto formed in São Paulo in the late 1970s, with Wander Wildner on vocals and guitar, Xico Chaves on guitar, João Callado on bass, Luis Calil on keyboards, and Sérgio Dias on drums. Their debut album 'O Movimento dos Barcos' came out in 1981, and the title track became an early favorite.
They followed with albums like 'Pra Você' in 1982 and 'Adeus, Boa Sorte' in 1984. That title track, along with songs like 'Tentação,' showed their mix of Brazilian rhythms with rock and folk melodies. Their music sometimes ran into trouble with censors during Brazil's military regime, which kept some songs off the radio.
Gepetto kept recording through the '80s and '90s, putting out records like 'Sempre Pensando em Você' in 1986 and 'Acorda, Brasil' in 1987. They released a live album from Circo Voador in 2007 and marked their 30th anniversary with a collection in 2011.
