Archive material and source history
Geraldo Magela formed in Goiás in 1987 as a duo of childhood friends, Geraldo Ribeiro and Magela Ferreira. Their debut album 'Dona do Olhar' came out in 1991, and its title track became a national hit in Brazil. They worked in the sertanejo style, a popular Brazilian genre.
Magela Ferreira was diagnosed with cancer in 1998 and died in 2000. After that, Geraldo Ribeiro continued performing their material as a solo artist. Songs like 'Estou Apaixonado' and 'Sempre Te Amarei' remained in their set.
In 2005, there was a legal dispute over the rights to the Geraldo Magela name, which ended the original partnership. Ribeiro has since released music under his own name.
