His song 'Contando As Estrelas' came out in 1974 and became his most recognizable piece. The album of the same name helped bring him wider attention in Brazil. He recorded other albums like 'Coisas Do Interior' and 'A Sombra Do Avião' in the mid-1970s.
Some of his material, including a song called 'Maritaca,' ran into censorship issues at the time for its satirical edge. He kept writing and performing with a straightforward, regional sound that didn't smooth out its rough edges.
