Per Gessle was born in Halmstad, Sweden in 1959. He formed his first band, Grape Rock, as a teenager. In 1986, he teamed up with Marie Fredriksson to form the duo Roxette. Their albums 'Look Sharp!' and 'Joyride' helped make them one of Sweden's most successful bands internationally.
After Roxette went on hiatus in 2002, Gessle began releasing solo work. His first solo album 'Mazarin' included the single 'Småstadsprat,' which became a hit in Scandinavia. Other songs like 'Jo-Anna Says' and 'Smakar På Ett Regn' show his continued songwriting in Swedish.
Gessle has been open about facing health issues in the late 2000s, including surgery for a brain tumor. He's also known for supporting the Swedish Pirate Party, which advocates for legalizing file sharing.
