GG Allin was born Jesus Christ Allin in 1956. He grew up in what's been described as a dysfunctional household, with a father who was a former boxer. Early on, he listened to The Stooges, The Ramones, and Alice Cooper.
In 1977, he formed his first band, The Jabbers. That group went through several name changes and lineup shifts before becoming GG Allin and the Murder Junkies around 1984. Their sound was raw and distorted, with Allin's vocals ranging from screams to whispers. Songs like 'Carmelita' and 'Abuse Myself I Wanna Die' are part of his catalog.
Allin's live shows became notorious for extreme behavior. He would engage in self-mutilation, defecate and urinate onstage, and encourage chaos from the audience. His lyrics dealt with violence and depravity, which drew moral outrage but also a loyal cult following. He released albums including Hated in the Nation in 1987.
