The Gibson Brothers formed in 1971 with brothers Chris on vocals and guitar and Leigh on bass and vocals, plus their cousin Jaime on drums and vocals. They started out playing on the local gospel circuit in South Carolina.
Their song "Mariana" from 1984 got them some national attention, reaching the top ten on the Billboard country charts. Other songs like "Cuba" and "Come To America" show their mix of country, gospel, and R&B sounds.
Chris Gibson had some trouble with alcohol addiction at one point, which affected the band. They also faced criticism for playing at a Confederate flag rally, though they said they were trying to bring people together rather than spread hate.
