Fernand Gignac

Fernand Gignac was born in Shawinigan, Quebec in 1934. His father was a musician, and that early exposure shaped his path. He started performing professionally in the 1950s with various groups, and put out his first self-titled album in 1962.

In 1963, Gignac wrote "Bonhomme hiver" after a winter storm hit his hometown. The song became a seasonal staple in Quebec, its melody and lyrics about snow and cheer connecting with listeners. He also recorded other popular tracks like "Ah! le petit vin blanc" and "Amapola."

Gignac kept recording through the years, with songs like "Do ré mi fa" and "Le Temps Qu'il Nous Reste" in his catalog. He sang in a straightforward, warm style that suited the material.
