G.I.Joey

G.I. Joey formed in Rovigo, Italy in 1964 with Giacomo Ruggeri on vocals, Giuseppe Verona on guitar, Giancarlo Golzi on bass, and Piergiorgio Farina on drums. Their early material mixed surf rock and beat music with Italian melodic traditions. In 1968, the song "Ballada G.I. Love" became a major hit in Italy, pushing the band to wider recognition.

Beyond that single, they recorded songs like "Weekend Friends," "We Are The Modern," and "Kick You Out." The group went through lineup changes and tried different approaches, including psychedelic and progressive rock elements. They kept recording into the early 1970s with albums like "Io mi fermo qui" and "Avrai."

Love" with claims it resembled an older American song, but the band continued performing. Their music has remained part of the Italian pop-rock conversation, played at festivals and on radio.
