Gilbert Montagné was born blind in Paris in 1951. He started singing at the National Institute for Young Blind People, and his first single "The Fool" came out in 1971. By the 1970s and 80s he was making soulful ballads and dance tracks that found an audience outside France.
His song "Just for Tonight" became his most recognizable hit. Other songs like "On va s'aimer" and "Les sunlights des tropiques" kept him on French radio through that period.
Montagné recorded more than twenty studio albums. In 1984 he was in a car accident that knocked him unconscious, but he returned to performing not long after. He sometimes spoke about disability rights and other social issues, which drew attention both supportive and critical.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
