Gildo de Freitas was born in Santos in 1933. He started singing and writing songs that drew from samba and serenades, with his first album coming out in 1963. That record was called 'Recordações do Passado,' and its title track became one of his early signatures.
His songs like 'Lembrança Do Passado' and 'Saudades de Minha Terra' often dealt with love and longing, delivered in a melancholic voice that connected with listeners. He kept recording through the 1960s and 1970s, putting out albums such as 'Gildo de Freitas, Noite' in 1966 and 'Gildo de Freitas, Sempre' in 1970.
Gildo de Freitas died in 2012. Some of his other well-known songs include 'Pedidos de um Gaúcho,' 'É Assim Que Eu Sou,' and 'Baile do Chico Torto.'
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
