Gillman formed in Mexico City in 1986, playing a heavy rock sound that didn't fit neatly with what was popular at the time. They built an audience through shows in underground clubs, and in 1991 signed with the independent label Discos Denver. Their debut album 'Into the Void' came out that year, featuring frontman Enrique 'Chicho' Rangel on vocals.
Their 1996 album 'El Corazón De Rock Pesado' included the title track that became a hit in Mexico. The band's songs like 'Buscador de Horizontes' and 'Cuento De La Sayona' continued in that heavy rock vein. Their lyrics sometimes drew criticism for explicit content and social commentary.
Gillman's music, including tracks like 'Children Of The Grave' and 'Contaminación-homenaje a El Rock Nacional', maintained a consistent heavy rock approach through their catalog. They developed a following in Mexico's rock scene during the 1990s.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
