Giuseppe Giordani

Giuseppe Giordani was born in Naples in 1744 and worked primarily as an opera composer during the late 18th century. He wrote over thirty operas and about a hundred cantatas, with his music showing the influence of earlier Neapolitan composers like Scarlatti and Pergolesi.

His best-known piece today is the song "Caro Mio Ben," composed in 1784. It's a simple, lyrical aria that has remained in the vocal repertoire for centuries, often used as a teaching piece for singers learning bel canto technique.

Giordani's career unfolded mainly in Naples, where his operas were performed in the city's theaters. He worked with prominent singers of the period, including the castrato Farinelli. Some of his operas, like "La cantarina" and "Artaserse," were successful in their day, though they're rarely staged now.
